Directions
-
Combine the all-purpose flour, sugar & salt in a bowl and mix. Add 4 tsp. of Pure Canola Oil and using your hands or mixer, mix the ingredients well until they all come together.
-
Add water in slowly with one hand as the other hand continuously combines it with the flour mix. Continue this until most of the dough is sticky then stop. Now knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 to 15 minutes until you get a firm dough. If the dough is sticky, alternate between sprinkling some more flour and applying the canola oil to your hands. Continue this until the dough is smooth and you can knead without it sticking to your hands or the surface. To test put a finger through the dough until you touch the bottom then take it out. If it comes out clean or with very minimal dough stuck to it, then it’s ready. Cover the dough and leave it for 40 minutes
-
After 40 minutes, divide the dough into 10 – 15 equal parts making ball-like shapes. Arrange them on a clean flat surface dusted with flour (Cover with a damp tablecloth to avoid drying).
-
Dust flour on the flat place and take one of the balls and start rolling with a rolling pin to a circular shape, brush oil on top and roll it inwards to form a shape like a rope, then create a coil-like shape and press the ball down with your palm to make it flat. Repeat this process with the rest of the remaining balls of dough.
-
Next, start rolling each of the coil-like shapes doughs with the rolling pin to form a circular shape again.
-
In a hot pan, place the rolled-out circular chapati and fry each side with a little PMF Pure Canola oil until it’s golden brown on medium heat. Place your cooked chapati on a flat plate and cover it with aluminum foil to avoid the chapatis drying.
-
Repeat this step with the rest of the coil-like dough.
Serve your chapatis with Pure Mountain FaBa Bean stew or your favorite stew.
